Protecting and restoring mangrove ecosystems while strengthening coastal livelihoods in Takaungu, Kilifi County.
The Moryani Mangrove Conservation Site is a community-driven environmental conservation initiative implemented by FarmCom Conservation CBO in Takaungu, Kilifi County. The project focuses on protecting and restoring mangrove ecosystems that play a vital role in shoreline protection, marine biodiversity, and climate resilience.
Through the establishment of mangrove nurseries and community-led planting activities, the project has enhanced environmental awareness and created income-generating opportunities for local residents. Mangroves provide breeding grounds for marine life, support fishing livelihoods, and act as natural barriers against coastal erosion and climate-related threats.
FarmCom Conservation CBO works closely with community members to manage mangrove nurseries, organize regular planting exercises, and conduct awareness programs highlighting the ecological and economic importance of mangroves. These activities ensure long-term sustainability and community ownership of conservation efforts.
