Strengthening food security, environmental conservation, and sustainable livelihoods through integrated farming and mangrove restoration initiatives.
The Kirepwe Island Farmers & Mangrove Restoration Project is a community-based initiative implemented by FarmCom Conservation CBO to support sustainable agriculture and environmental conservation. At Kirepwe Island, FarmCom provides farmers with farm inputs that facilitate sustainable agricultural activities, ensuring a steady food supply and continuous food security throughout the year.
The project supports the local community by establishing food crop nurseries and mangrove seedling nurseries. Community members sell these seedlings to generate income for their livelihoods. The combined approach of farming and environmental conservation has greatly benefited the community by increasing food security while creating income opportunities through the sale of mangrove seedlings.
FarmCom Conservation CBO intends to expand the Kirepwe Island project in early 2026 to include additional income-generating activities that build on existing community skills and environmental strengths.
